Indian Folk Art for adults
An Account of Lines and Dots
Traditional Indian art known as Gond Art is distinguished by its use of vivid colours and elaborate patterns. The Gond tribe of central India, who are the primary practitioners of this kind of art, is honoured by the name of the artform. A type of painting known as Gond Art is frequently applied to walls and ceilings. The paintings typically feature scenes from daily life, deities, the natural world, and animals and are done in an Indian folk style. In this lesson, we will investigate the numerous Gond Art styles and the diverse colour schemes.

What is covered in the class ?
The process for applying the pigments entailed thoroughly starching the fabric, which was typically a thick cotton cloth, then applying the colours to the surface of the fabric with binders and adhesives. Typically, the backgrounds of these pictures were black or white, with outlines. The contrasting backgrounds were outlined with charcoal and zinc white, respectively. Copper acetate, lapis lazuli, mercury sulphide, indigo, and lamp black were just a few examples of the plant and mineral materials that were used to make the colours. For finer lines, goat hair and squirrel hair were used to make the painting brushes.
