Art Classes For 9yrs to 13yrs

Explore Style, Technique & Creativity

At BrainArt, we believe that every child is an artist waiting to be discovered. Our art studio in HSR Layout is more than just a classroom- it’s a vibrant, creative sanctuary where children aged 9 to 13 can step away from screens and dive into the tactile world of fine art. We don’t just teach kids how to draw; we teach them how to think, observe, and express their unique ideas. While many programs focus only on quick sketches, we guide our students through the entire creative process. By finishing every piece of artwork they start, our students build the grit and confidence that comes with true accomplishment.

Building the Next Generation of Artists and Designers

Our Art Foundation Program for kids ages 9–13 is a structured, level-based curriculum designed for students who are serious about their creative growth. Moving beyond casual hobby classes, this progressive art foundation course focuses on professional techniques, spatial understanding, and creative storytelling.

Whether your child is preparing for advanced design pathways or looking to master the technical aspects of fine art, our three-level curriculum provides the roadmap to success.

Fundamentals & Perspective
Focus: Core Drawing Skills & Spatial Depth

Level 1 establishes the essential “building blocks” of visual art. We transition students from simple drawing to structured training in the Elements of Art and perspective.

  • The Elements of Art: Comprehensive study of Line, Shape, Form, and Color.

  • Visual Relationships: Special focus on Juxtaposition to create meaningful art.

  • Perspective Drawing: Mastering One-Point Perspective (rooms/objects) and Ant-View Perspective.

  • Spatial Techniques: Learning depth through overlapping and scale.

  • Diverse Styles: Exploration of Kinetic Art, Typography, and traditional Gond Art.

Composition & Anatomy
Focus: Technical Execution, Value Studies, & Structural Drawing

Level 2 introduces the discipline required for serious art learning, focusing on how subjects are built and how light interacts with form.

  • Advanced Color Theory: In-depth Value Studies, Monochrome exploration, and mastering Contrast.

  • Principles of Composition: Understanding Proportion and Balance to create professional layouts.

  • Subject-Based Mastery: Professional techniques for Still Life, Waterscapes, and Landscapes.

  • Anatomy Studies: Structural drawing of Human Anatomy, Animals, and Birds.

  • Contemporary Media: Introduction to Graffiti Art and the basics of Storyboarding.

Advanced Concepts & Visual Storytelling
Focus:  Integrating Design Principles with Narrative Projects

Level 3 bridges the gap between traditional art education and creative industry skills, teaching students how to communicate complex ideas through their work.

  • The Principles of Design: Advanced study of Rhythm, Movement, Symmetrical Unity, and Texture.

  • Complex Composition: Integrating animals and birds into multi-layered, detailed scenes.

  • Narrative Art: Creating Folktale-inspired artworks and reinterpreting traditional styles.

  • Story Mapping: Mastery of visual sequencing and Story-Board-Ballad concepts.

  • Media & Motion: An exciting introduction to Stop-Motion Animation.

FAQ

At BrainArt Studio, children aged 9–13 years follow a structured visual-art curriculum that develops drawing, painting, observation, colour, composition and creative expression. Children progressively explore artistic techniques, visual storytelling and more independent ways of creating artwork.

The 6–8 years program focuses primarily on building art foundations, including the Elements and Principles of Art and their practical application.

The 9–13 years program builds on those foundations with greater emphasis on drawing skills, observation, composition, techniques, perspective, visual storytelling and independent artistic expression.

Children are encouraged to apply what they learn rather than simply reproduce a teacher’s artwork.

It is a structured visual-art program, rather than a drawing-only class.

Drawing is an important component, but children also explore painting, colour, composition, different artistic techniques and selected hands-on projects. The objective is to develop a broader understanding of visual art.

Teachers may demonstrate techniques and processes step by step when introducing a new concept.

However, BrainArt does not follow a purely “copy the teacher’s drawing” approach. Demonstrations are used to help children understand techniques, after which they are encouraged to apply their learning and make their own creative decisions.

The curriculum progressively introduces Principles of Art such as balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, pattern, proportion, repetition and composition.

Children learn how these principles can be used to organise visual elements and communicate ideas through artwork.

Yes. Age-appropriate concepts such as proportion, scale, overlapping, spatial relationships and perspective can be introduced as children develop their drawing and composition skills.

These concepts help children represent objects and spaces with greater visual understanding.

Yes. Children may work with different drawing, painting and hands-on art materials depending on the concept and project.

The purpose of using different mediums is not simply to introduce more materials, but to help children understand how different techniques and materials can be used to create visual effects.

Artist studies and exposure to different artistic approaches can be incorporated into the curriculum. Children can observe how artists use colour, line, composition, technique and visual storytelling, and use these observations as inspiration for their own work.

Not necessarily.

A class may explore the same artistic concept or technique, but children are encouraged to make individual choices in their artwork. The focus is on understanding the concept and applying it creatively rather than producing identical finished pieces.

Yes. Children who already enjoy drawing can use the program to develop a more structured understanding of technique, composition, colour, observation and visual expression.

The curriculum gives them opportunities to move beyond drawing as an activity and develop a stronger foundation in visual art.

  • A trial class allows the child and parent to experience the BrainArt classroom before enrolling.

During the trial, the child gets an opportunity to sit through a class, follow instructions, interact with the teacher, experience the studio environment and understand the way the class is conducted.

It also gives the teacher an opportunity to observe the child’s existing skills and response to the learning environment.

  • BrainArt’s 9–13 years creative art classes are conducted offline at the BrainArt Studio in HSR Layout, Bangalore.
